Senior Backend Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with strong technical and communication skills to contribute throughout the development lifecycle of products in various exciting domains, which are realized with Commencis’ expertise in a fast-paced team environment.

Responsibilites

• Writing clean, reusable, testable, and secure backend code following industry best practices.
• Designing and implementing low-latency, high-availability, and high-performance services.
• Architecting well-defined, scalable APIs to support user-facing and internal components.
• Collaborating effectively within a cross-functional, agile engineering team.
• Participating in and conducting code and architecture reviews to maintain high standards.
• Continuously exploring and implementing new technologies to improve system scalability and resilience.
• Contributing to Proof-of-Concepts (PoCs) to evaluate emerging solutions and design approaches.
• Building robust microservice-based systems that are maintainable, observable, and extendable.

Qualifications & Experience

• BSc/MSc/Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
• 5+ years of backend development experience designing and building large-scale systems.
• Strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot, including RESTful API design.
• In-depth understanding of Microservices Architecture and distributed system design.
• Hands-on experience with microservice communication patterns (e.g., REST, gRPC, message queues).
• Familiarity with architectural patterns such as SAGA, CQRS, Event Sourcing, and Domain-Driven Design (DDD).
• Practical knowledge of BFF (Back-End for Front-End) design and API gateway principles.
• Experience writing unit, integration, and end-to-end tests; understanding of TDD concepts.
• Working knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes (basic level).
• Experience integrating applications with PostgreSQL or other major databases, and writing complex SQL queries.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to design scalable, maintainable software solutions.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with fluency in English.
• Banking or financial services domain knowledge is a strong plus.
• Curiosity and openness to experiment with new technologies and rapid prototyping (PoCs).

Nice to have

• Experience with stream processing frameworks (Kafka Streams, Flink, etc.).
• Familiarity with Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and event-driven integration concepts.
• Exposure to CI/CD automation and modern deployment strategies.
• Prior experience in Agile/SCRUM environments.
• Contributions to open-source projects or internal engineering communities.
• Passion for continuous learning, scalability, and clean architecture.
