What does a System Administrator do?

System administrators are individuals responsible for the management of information technology systems such as computer networks and servers. They are responsible for managing networks, servers, storage, software and other information technology components to ensure the secure, effective and efficient operation of the technology infrastructure.

The general duties of system administrators are as follows;
  • Installation, configuration, management and maintenance of information technology infrastructure
  • Backup, recovery and security of data
  • Establishing regular backup policies to prevent data loss,
  • Configuring and managing routers, switches and other network components, monitoring network performance, diagnosing and resolving network problems,
  • Security and monitoring of the network
  • Server and storage management
  • Responsible for research, testing and implementation of new products.
System administrators play a critical role in keeping companies' information systems running smoothly. They also need to be experts in important issues such as network security and data protection. Their duties include installing operating systems, applying updates, setting up network settings and configuring the necessary software and hardware components. In addition, to be a system administrator, knowledge of operating systems (Windows, Linux, etc.), network technologies, database management, security tools and protocols is also required.
